Student residence, Malles, 2014

Student residence

The site is a part of a hillside located by the border of Malles, an Alpine village in South Tyrol. The area is currently taken up by the buildings of an abandoned military base. The project foresees the demolition of the existing constructions and the reconstruction of the hillside in order to restore the natural orography.
The student house is characterized by a clear distinction between public spaces, allocated in a tall building integrated in to the hillside, and the private spaces - rooms and living room - allocated in a simple 3-storey building. This volume emerges isolated from the grassy hillside, a solitary wooden box on the landscape.
